The first 2,000 customers will get a 30% discount when buying 15,000 Alaska Airlines miles. Once 2,000 people purchase miles through the sale, the offer will expire. If 2,000 people don’t take advantage of the sale, it will end by October 23 at 11:59 PM ET.

This is not a targeted offer, just log in to your account at this link to buy 15k Alaska miles for $310.41.

It is not a good idea to buy Alaska miles outright if you don’t have an immediate use for them, as I don’t think Alaska miles are worth 2.06 cents each ($310.41 / 15,000). This sale is ideal specifically for people needing to top off their accounts for a high value redemption. It’s particularly convenient for those who only need a few more Alaska miles, considering most of their sales will only give you a bonus or discount for buying larger amounts.

How the Bonus Stacks Up Historically

The highest bonus we’ve seen offered on the purchase of Alaska miles is 50%, which brings the per mile cost down to 1.97 cents per mile. This sale gets the per mile cost down to 2.06 cents each, but again, you don’t have to purchase a ton of miles like you normally would to trigger the discount this time. In the past the 50% bonus came from the highest tier–buying 40k to 60k miles.

How the Bonus Works

The sale is structured as a discount, on a fixed amount of 15,000 miles. Buy 15,000 miles and you’ll get 30% off.

The normal price for 15,000 miles is $443.44 (including tax).

The sale price for 15,000 miles is $310.41 (including tax).

I don’t think Alaska miles are worth 2.06 cents each, but they are worth very close to that (1.75 cents each), and if you have a specific redemption in mind, it is not hard to get more than 1.97 cents of value per mile.

Airlines on Which You Can Redeem Alaska Miles

Here are the Alaska partners on which you can redeem. (Note: AeroMexico awards have been unavailable since October 2015.)

Singapore Airlines is Alaska’s newest partner but is not listed above as a partner you can redeem on yet as Singapore award space has yet to show up on alaskaair.com. You can redeem Singapore miles on Alaska however (well, kind of, Singapore agents are still having a hard time accessing Alaska space but that should be remedied very soon), and earn Alaska miles flying Singapore.

I’m a big fan of Alaska miles, because of the free stopovers on one way awards and great mix of partners from multiple alliances. Read about how to get the most out of Alaska miles in 7 Awesome Alaska Awards w/Free Stopovers & How to Book Them.

Logistics of Buying Alaska Miles

It looks like each MileagePlan account will be limited to buying 15,000 miles maximum, one time, during this sale.

Remember that Alaska Airlines miles sales are handled through points.com, so they are not considered airfare or travel purchases for the purposes of earning a category bonus on your credit card. Buy them with whatever card you’re meeting a minimum spending requirement on or whichever card earns the reward you value the most.

Bottom Line

Sign in here to buy 15,000 Alaska miles for $310.41 (2.06 cents each). The first 2,000 people that do so will get the discount.

It’s nice to see a large discount on such a small amount of miles, as most of us would likely only want to buy miles if it was for the purpose of topping off an account for an upcoming redemption you don’t have time to earn miles for.

This sale is first come, first serve, so don’t dilly dally if you want to buy!
