Update at 1:02 PM ET: I had two computers and a smartphone ready on three different-sized packages (69k, 36k, and 24k), but all got the “on hold for other customers” message within seconds of 1 PM. This is the first deal I failed to get in on. Congrats to those with faster fingers.

Today is the penultimate day of five weeks of discounted travel packages sponsored by the US Travel Association and American Express called Daily Getaways. And it’s the last one that I’m going to take part in personally.

Every weekday at 1 PM ET, a discounted travel package or packages will go on sale and will sell out in a few minutes. Some of the offers will be awesome; some will be duds. Today’s offer is fantastic.

Today’s deal is discounted Hyatt Gold Passport points in 24k, 30k, 36k, and 69k packages for under one cent per point.

How can you get the deal?

All Daily Getaways packages are discounted. And you get an additional 10% off each sale price by paying with an American Express, so that’s a no-brainer, and I’ll always quote prices after the American Express discount.

Prices today are:

  • 24k Hyatt points for $234, 0.98 cents per point, 100 packages available
  • 3ok Hyatt points for $297, 0.99 cents per point, 35 packages available
  • 36k Hyatt points for $373.50, 1.04 cents per point, 15 packages available
  • 69k Hyatt points for $697.50, 1.01 cents per point, 15 packages

You can buy a maximum of one package of each size per Hilton account number, meaning you can buy one of each amount.

“Within ten business days of purchase, [the amount of] Hyatt Gold Passport® bonus points will be deposited into the Hyatt Gold Passport account provided at the time of purchase. You can then redeem these points for a future stay.”

Here’s Hyatt’s award chart:

Here’s a link to Hyatt category 6 properties, and there’s a dropdown menu at the top to change categories.

Buying Hyatt points for one cent each means Category 1 hotels–which routinely cost more than $100–are $50 per night and Category 6 hotels–some of which can cost $1,000 per night–are $220 per night.

I am definitely going to try to purchase as many Hyatt points as I can tomorrow before they sell out almost instantly for two reasons. One, the implied price of hotels when buying Hyatt points for one cent each is extremely low. And two, this means I will save Ultimate Rewards that I might otherwise have transferred to Hyatt and transfer them to United (probably) instead. That means, for me, today is like buying United miles for one cent each, which is also a steal!

Purchasing the Packages

To maximize your chances of getting in on the deal, I recommend using a site like whattimeisit.com to figure out the official time. This week’s sales have all started on time to the second. Keep refreshing for the best chance.

This is what happens if you try to purchase something where all quantities are already in someone’s cart.

This doesn’t mean the deal is sold out. If someone doesn’t complete his purchase, that quantity will immediately become available for someone else. Keep checking until the dreaded “Sold Out” appears.

I will be by my computer at 1 PM EST / 10 AM PST / 7 AM HST / (2 PM in Buenos Aires) to check out how these two deals are selling. Do you plan to buy them? Post your successful or failed attempt in the comments, so we can gauge how quick you had to be to snag a card.
