If you book a participating Starwood Preferred Guest hotel or resort on your MasterCard by October 31, 2017, you can get the third night free on reservations of three nights or more.

  • Use promo code Z3H for Starwood hotels
  • Use promo code Z3R for Starwood resorts

Here’s the link to the promo or you can call Starwood Preferred Guest Reservations (1-866-716-8147) and feed the rep the appropriate code.

Variations of this same promotion have been offered before, so it seems like it’s not a bad idea to try your luck with the promo code any time you’re booking a paid stay of at least three nights at a Starwood property.

Pertinent Terms

For Hotel Stays

  • Valid for arrivals Thursday through Saturdays

For Resort Stays

  • Valid for arrivals every day of the week

For Stays at Either

  • Advance reservation/purchase required
  • Rates are based on single/double occupancy
  • No refunds for cancellations nor are changes allowed
  • Your free night applies to the room rate and tax only

I don’t see any info online that restricts the travel window of when your stays could be at either Starwood hotels or resorts, you’ll just need to call and check for your desired hotel or resort to see if it’s considered “a participating property”.

Stacking With Citi Prestige 4th Night Free Benefit

One of the most valuable benefits of the Citi Prestige Card is the ability to get your fourth night free on paid hotel stays booked through the Citi Prestige Concierge (online or over the phone). The discount is the average of the four nights, and is refunded when you check out.

And guess what? The Citi Prestige is a MasterCard!

Call your Citi Prestige Concierge and request to book the special MasterCard rate with your Prestige (like the commenter on this Gate post), and not only will you get the third night free, you’ll also get your fourth night free refunded after you check out. That’s a huge discount off of a four night stay.

Other Ways to Stay at SPG Properties for Free or With a Discount

The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express offers 25,000 SPG Starpoints for spending $3,000 within three months of opening the account. The Business version of the card offers the same bonus for spending $4,000 within three months.

If it’s SPG hotels you’re after, you can use your SPG Starpoints to book Free Night Awards, Cash and Points Awards (mixture of cash + points), or SPG Nights and Flights packages (combo of hotel nights and flights).

Credit card links have been removed from posts and added to the menu bar at the top of every page of MileValue under the heading Top Travel Credit Cards.

Bottom Line

Planning a stay at a Starwood Preferred Guest hotel or resort? Try booking with your MasterCard using promo code Z3H for hotels or Z3R for resorts to get your third night free on reservations of three or more nights. The promotion technically ends October 31 but it looks like this could be off/ongoing and not necessarily new. I’d try whenever booking a paid stay at an SPG property!
