I just wrote about United’s mile sale (lasts through August 15, 2016) where you can get up to 100% bonus miles. Sounds sassy, but probably isn’t worth it–the bottom line on all mileage sales is that they’re a good deal if you have an immediate, high-value use and not a good deal otherwise.

One of the selling points is that if you buy United miles during this sale, you will be automatically entered into a sweepstakes Points.com is holding to win up to 250,000 United miles.

But I read something in the fine print, at the bottom of the page where you purchase the miles, that caught my eye. You don’t have to actually buy any United miles to enter in the sweepstakes!

Bottom Line

All you have to do is send a postcard to Points, 351 California Street, Suite 1210, San Francisco, CA 94108, with the following information on it:

  • First and last name
  • Mailing address
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • A reference to the “Points.com Inc. MileagePlus Miles Sweepstakes

And you could win either 250,000; 100,000; or 50,000 United miles. Who knows, it’s worth of shot! The sweepstakes ends the same day as the points sale, August 15, so send your postcard to California with time for it to arrive by then.
