Why I Just Chose to Redeem Aeroplan Miles Over Singapore

Tonight (for me it is almost 11 PM) my goal was to book a flight to get me from Norway to Spain around July 11, because for the rest of the days leading up to the 11th, I'll be camping in rural Norway with little to no internet access.

Cash flights at this point are exorbitantly expensive, but hey, that's what miles are for.

Singapore Changes As Of March 23: Award Devaluation & No More Fuel Surcharges

REMINDER: The changes outlined in this post kick in March 23 (this coming Thursday). If you want to book a Singapore award flying Singapore or Silk Air before the changes, remember to book by Wednesday, March 22.

Anatomy of an Award: Last Minute $767 Hawaii Ticket for 17,500 Miles

I just booked myself a one way award from Honolulu, Hawaii to Charlottesville, Virginia for 17,500 Singapore miles and $6.

United Now Offers Free Intra-Hawaii Flights on Awards

United partners with both Hawaiian Airlines and Island Air to offer codeshares within Hawaii.

You can redeem United miles for interisland flights on either airline. The cost is 6,000 miles + $5.60 one way.

You can also include Hawaiian or Island Air flights as part of a larger award, like Newark to Honolulu on United, connecting to Molokai on Hawaiian. Until very recently, though, United would price this as two separate awards.

Anatomy of an Award: To Patagonia with American Airlines and Singapore Miles

I recently went to Patagonia with my friend from Hawaii.

I helped her book her trip with American Airlines and Singapore miles, and I learned some things along the way. Takeaways:

Days of the year with good award space
The only airline within the Americas with fuel surcharges
When to book and when to wait

The Plan
My friend and I wanted to see Chilean and Argentine Patagonia plus Buenos Aires.

Miles With Free (or Almost Free) Change & Cancellation Fees

There are lots of obvious reasons why miles are better than cash, like the ability they give us to book mini palaces on planes that look like this...

Etihad First Class Apartment on an A380

...or the loose routing/stopover/open jaw rules of some programs that allow us to see more places on one trip.

But what about the smaller perks we often overlook? Like free or nearly free change and cancellation fees?
