Why Bogota?
I’ve spent a little over four weeks there in the last year. Other than the weather, which is generally brisk, cloudy, and rainy, I love the city.
Hike Monserrate, hit the Gold Museum, go to the restaurant/nightclub Andres Carne de Res (all ages), and eat at El Corral and Sipote plus more sophisticated places. If you like nightlife, stay in Zona Rosa (AKA Zona T) or Rosales.
Most importantly, on any Sunday or holiday, rent a bike and participate in the original ciclovia, which has spawned worldwide imitations. You can bike on 121 km of roads closed to cards. I took the opportunity to roll through the South of the city which would otherwise be far too dangerous to visit alone.

Mileage Earning
On American Airlines flights, you’ll earn one American Airlines mile per mile flown, which are worth about 1.8 cents each to me. Starting in the second half of 2016, American Airlines will copy United’s revenue-based program for earning award miles from flights.
For the United flights, you’ll earn 5 United miles per dollar of the base fare, very few miles in this case, or more if you have status.
Best Way to Buy the Ticket
