Lufthansa Miles & More Miles can be used to book longhaul Singapore Business Class awards to Europe!

Singapore Business Class

This is especially excellent because United miles cannot book longhaul business class awards on Singapore, and Singapore Business Class is widely considered one of the best products in the world.

The Premier Miles & More® World MasterCard® is currently offering 50,000 bonus Lufthansa miles after spending $5,000 in the first 90 days. (This deal ends June 30, 2014.) Meeting the card’s spending requirement would earn you enough miles to book Singapore Business Class one way between the United States and Europe.

  • How do you search Singapore Business Class?
  • How do you book Singapore Business Class with Lufthansa miles?
  • Does Lufthansa collect fuel surcharges on Singapore Airlines flights?

Singapore Airlines to Europe

Singapore Airlines flies New York to Frankfurt and Houston to Moscow. Both planes continue to Singapore, but you can also just fly the portion from the United States to Europe.

Lufthansa charges only 52,000 miles each way in Business Class between the United States and Europe.

Searching Award Space

Ordinarily my favorite place to search for award space on a Star Alliance airline like Singapore Airlines is united.com, but united.com doesn’t display Singapore Airlines.

Instead of going to the ANA search tool, I actually prefer the LifeMiles search tool in this case. It’s a bit quicker to use than ANA’s tool for this search, and you can have the LifeMiles tool search only Singapore Airlines.

My searches on these routes showed that the Houston to Moscow route has great space throughout the year including for last-minute awards.

The New York to Frankfurt route hardly ever has award space.

With Lufthansa miles, you can book United flights within the United States to position yourself to Houston. Adding United First Class flights to the Singapore Business Class flight will not increase the award’s miles price.

How to Book a Singapore Business Class Award

After finding the award space, call the Lufthansa service center at 800-581-6400 between 8 AM and 8 PM ET. Feed the agent the flight number, date, and cabin of each flight, and she’ll quickly price it out.

There are fuel surcharges on Singapore Airlines flights booked with Lufthansa miles. The all in price forHouston to Moscow in Singapore Business: 52,000 Lufthansa miles + $194.52.

Getting Lufthansa Miles

Premier Miles & More® World MasterCard® is currently offering 50,000 bonus Lufthansa miles after spending $5,000 in the first 90 days. (This deal ends June 30, 2014.) Meeting the card’s spending requirement would earn you enough miles to book Singapore Business Class one way between the United States and Europe. The card has a $79 annual fee.

I got the card last year. I’ve used Lufthansa miles to book myself flights on United between Hawaii and the mainland. Lufthansa miles have access to all the same United Saver award space that United offers to non-elites, and Lufthansa charges fewer miles between the mainland and Hawaii on the same flights.

Singapore Airlines to Asia

I focused on Singapore’s European routes since they cost fewer miles, but you can also use Lufthansa miles to book Singapore flights to Asia.

Singapore Airlines Business Class to East and Southeast Asia is 67,000 Lufthansa miles each way. Singapore flies from:

  • Los Angeles to Tokyo
  • San Francisco to Seoul
  • San Francisco to Hong Kong

All three of those routes plus the two to Europe mentioned earlier continue on to Singapore.
